I have renamed and rewritten the old article, "The Trinity vs God in Three Persons," into the new:
I'm not sure I would call this a "correction" as much as a renovation to keep things within Scriptural terms. On a technical level, I still do believe the phrase "God in Three Persons" works, and the reason is because the word 'person' is used many times in Scripture, and it is used in context of defining an individual; however, it is also sometimes used in terms of defining and office or station, like how I describe in the teaching "
Respecting Persons is Sin," and therefore, it can cause some confusion, especially among heretics who falsely accuse, because they may equate the term 'person' with an "office" or "form" of God, rather than God Himself.
In a previous forum post, I had addressed a heretic by the name of Edward (i.e.
specifically Edwardpf123, a man who teaches a wide variety of false doctrines), who made a Youtube video scoffing at my teaching on the subject. Tim, one of our moderators here on the forum, and member of our church (who used to subscribe to Edward's channel many years ago), analyzed my new teaching and some of Edwards more recent videos on this subject, and discovered that Edward believes mostly the same thing that I teach, but Edward denies that the Father and the Son are one, as Jesus clearly stated in the Bible. Not only is Christ and the Father one, but so are Christ and the Holy Ghost, as He states in John 14:
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
-John 14:6-18Jesus is claiming to be the Father, while the Father and the Son are separate entities, they are one at the same time. Jesus also said He would send a Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, and He then said, "
I will come to you," which is Christ claiming to be the Holy Ghost as well. God is infinite, omniscient, and omnipresent, and we are simply incapable of understanding the fullness of His essence, and so if we cannot understand it, then we should simply believe it for the sake of the evangelistic works that we do, that the church be not divided over nonsensical theories and false doctrines.
If heretics like Edward do not want to believe Christ, that's their business. God has given men liberty to deny Christ if they choose. However, I want Christians to be aware of the deception of such men, most especially Youtube preachers, who are a dime-a-dozen nowadays, who falsely accuse others, while scoffing from the foundation of a malicious heart. I pray that God would bring Edward to repentance (i.e. grief and godly sorrow) of his sin, so he can be saved, and have his understanding opened, as we have received God's grace of understanding.
For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake. One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
-Titus 1:10-13In summary, if we stick with the Biblical term 'Godhead', it brings people's attention back to the Scripture, so they will not get involved in endless debates about what a 'person' is. If you want to learn more about this subject, please follow this link to the teaching:
