Hi David,

Yes, this life will bring about trials, hardship, and adversity. Praise the Lord Jesus Christ for opening up our eyes, humbling us, and bringing us to repentance and faith.

It saddens me to hear about your dad. You did all that you could. I will be keeping your family in prayer that they would be drawn to repentance. Continue to speak the truth to those in your family that will hear you.

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. -1 Corinthians 1:18

I pray the Lord would cover you with peace and comfort during this difficult time.

Hi Nathan, welcome! I enjoyed reading through your post.

I grew up in a Lutheran church for my formative years, doing what I've heard called "Churchianity." I went to Sunday school, attended the services, got confirmed, went to a youth group, etc. I got nothing from it, and if I'm being honest, it drew me away from God. I was a teenager during the confirmation and youth group part, mostly going because my good childhood friend went, not for my own benefit. I didn't get any value out of that.

I can relate to this as well, as I also grew up in a Lutheran church and did the same things (Sunday school, confirmation, youth group, etc). I was forced to go and years later found out my dad stopped going because the church asked to see his taxes to get their proper tithe (pretty crazy!). Thankfully I stopped going to that church when I was in 8th grade.

I can see how the Lutheran church drew you away from God and that you didn't get any value from it, as it is full of traditions of men.

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. -Colossians 2:8

I bowed my knees and head and sincerely asked for repentance for the first time in July. Since then, I've been working through the entire Bible, starting from the old testament. I'm currently up to Luke. I've read the new testament once already, but I'm of the opinion that myself and all of us should read multiple times, there is a fountain of grace and lessons to be learned and gleaned.

Praise the Lord Jesus Christ for bringing you low, humbling you, and bringing you to repentance.

Your story really hits home for me, as my dad has struggled with drugs and drinking for 47 years (started drinking when he was 16 and doing drugs at 17).

My dad has had periods where he doesn't drink for weeks, but then would go far deeper every time he started drinking again. My dad is not saved, but thankfully the Lord has been extremely longsuffering with him as he also should not be alive today.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. -2 Peter 3:9

When I get tempted, I remember that Jesus can lead me away from it. He can take it from me if I ask for it and believe. and when I do that, the temptation to do something that offends Him leaves me. I want to be a better person to show my eternal gratitude for the price He paid.

This is not to say I'm perfect and all cured. I'm not. I'm a work in progress. I still sin. The main difference is that I am grieved when I do it. I realize what behavior is a sin and work to avoid it, but when I do it, I ask for forgiveness and sincerely regret/grieve over it.

I'm getting there, learning more, reading more, one day at a time. Joining here and sharing my story is part of my spiritual journey, as I like to think of it.

Continue to seek the Lord when you face temptation.

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. -1 Corinthians 10:13

I look forward to meeting you, Megan, and your daughter in December.

Hi Derek, welcome!

Since then I've been praying and trying to figure out what to do. I stumbled on Chris' 501(C)3 video series through a Youtube comment, and have thoroughly enjoyed going through his many other teachings.

That's awesome you have been able to go through some of the other teachings. Is there any specifically that you have really enjoyed going through? Most of us here also found Chris through YouTube and started listening to teachings as well before coming on to the forum. I saw Megan linked to the Repentance teaching, which I would also love to hear what you have to say about that one, if you have gone through it.

I met with the Christianity 101 teacher to ask questions, and he told me he wasn't even sure that there was a God!

This isn't surprising, but definitely made me laugh. For someone that is teaching the foundations of Christianity (Christianity 101), and he himself isn't sure that God exists, speaks to the corruption of "Christian" colleges/universities. Like you quoted within your post, 1 John 2:27, refers to those that are born again not needing to be taught by any man, because those that have come to repentance and faith have been given understanding and discernment through the Holy Spirit. Glad to hear you got out of that school, as places like that only continue to spread false doctrine.

But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. -1 John 2:27

PSALM 19:7
The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure making wise the simple

During this time, I was driving long distance from my last place of duty nearly every week to see my family. I would read and listen to the bible, mostly corrupt versions, and from time to time I would stop and talk to people about how you must follow the 10 Commandments in order for God to accept you. The good news coming from all of this was that I realized or rather God allowed me to realize that I was worthy of hell and I was leading my family there.  I was a terrible husband and father, full of pride who demanded my children told the truth, yet I was a liar.  I demanded that I was respected yet I did not respect the only One worthy of all of creations respect.  I came home after the drive one night and fell to the floor.  I cried my eyes out knowing at that moment that I did not deserve to have the Lords pardon and I had wronged him continually throughout my life.  I have cried before for my wrongdoings but not like this.  This cry of repentance changed everything. I used to sin as if God was not watching, I would beat myself up for it for a little while and then repeat the same thing over and over.  After I repented unto God I now know what it is to fear Him, and it is wonderful.  The law of the Lord showed me the ignorance and arrogance of my prideful heart and the gift of repentance brought me to the ground in tears.  That repentance produced a desire to stop my sinful ways that I was never able to control by myself.

But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. -Galatians 3:23-25

Hi David, welcome!

It was great reading through your posts. I am so glad that the Lord Jesus Christ opened your eyes to His law and brought you to repentance and faith.

I saw your post about your dad last night and will continue to keep him in prayer that the Lord would continue to be longsuffering with him and bring him to repentance before he passes.

Hi Barb  :)

It was wonderful to read through your posts. Praise the Lord Jesus Christ that He opened your eyes to the truth and that you left the Catholic church behind. I can imagine how die-hard Catholic your mom is at 89. My grandma is 95 and has been Catholic her entire life.

I'm glad you were able to witness to your dad before he passed and I too hope he came to repentance the night before he passed.

That is very cool you built your own tiny house to share with your cute dogs  :) I too would love to see a picture, if you would like to share. Also, what part of FL are you living in? We just had a member of the church move to Fort Walton beach.

I look forward to conversing with you and getting to know you better.

What's New @ CLE / Re: (BOOK) Christian Music: For The Love of Money
« on: October 25, 2020, 03:04:36 PM »
Wow! I agree Jeanne, this is very creepy. For anyone that wants to see the lyrics of the song 'Stairway To Heaven' backmasked (played backwards) I have copied them below. Very interesting that at the beginning of the song it instructs to play backwards, and "Hear why its sung"...

For anyone that hasn't read through this section of the Christian Music: For the Love of Money, here is a little more information:

Quote
Robert Plant was interviewed about Stairway to Heaven, and he gave his testimony about how he wrote it:
"I was holding a pencil and paper, and for some reason I was in a very bad mood... Then all of a sudden, my hand was writing out the words, 'There's a lady who's sure / All that glitters is gold, / And she's buying a stairway to heaven.' I just sat there and looked at them and almost leapt out of my seat."

Quote
demonic channeling - in which a man gives himself unto devils to be possessed by them (often through the use of drugs/sorcery), and those dark spirits use the man's hands and mouth to do their bidding.

Quote
The concept of backmasking was born of devils, and it is something Aleister Crowley referred to as "The Occult Law of Reversal," which was his lesson on how to practice witchcraft by speaking backwards, walking backwards, and playing music backwards.

Plaaaay backwards,
Hear why its sung here, oppositioner...
Allll on track, all arriving
They all sing, and they are one.
Shall I loathe you now, parishoner?
Oh hear Him, Christian within me.
It stirs my sin; the river,
Oh, she swells with our lousiness.
All my life will end for him?
We're all out of signs,
I know I'm sorta shocked
To hear The Lord,
My God now will save me!
Oh I will n'er be saved,
Because I live with Satan...
One wish today;
That you'll all pray for
Three who will make it here late.
Pray now and you'll see...
The 'Lord' turned me on,
But, oh, I was the shaggy fool...
Clothed in agony,
Lost at a height.
There's no escaping it,
Nor his woes...
So here's to my Sweet Satan.
The one who's little path
Would make me sad,
Whose power is satan.
He'll give you 666.
there was a little toolshed,
where he made
us suffer sad Satan.
Ohohohoh...
"Family won't get loose,
They're offered me"
Always soothes the worker.
Always will be as we know now
"I see ruins," said he,
"the world they offered me?
Who wished the Lord's fall"
If we lose feather,
Say you'll save me!

And no wimps can bend the rules..
And no wimps can do..

Hunt next to the shore,
'Cause they see all from there,
See here's the news,
Who walks with mute grief!
Perhaps no-one found thee...
"Heavy, lift me out,"
Spake the Reve,
"Someday, failed, we'll lose one line-up,
They've gotta leave forsaken"

And no wimps can do...
And no wimps can do...

He, who say the lords
Thoth have our laws,
Maat must be superb. Mass is ended...
Over there,
He who should learn thee.
Any moot that serves by my sworn music,
I wish it with snow be shushed, All for my mass's sake.
Hear why its sung,
here, oppositioner, Ohh...
He who should show
May make his show worthy,
To look, for us, odd.. sickly,
There's one chance - take his show.
Hold thy head,
Hear why its sung here. oppositioner.
Who owns this earth built below?
Oh sweet Israel...

Kenneth (32:47): All creation declares there's a God. They're gonna have no excuse on judgement day.

The verse I thought of when this was said was Romans 1:20.

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: -Romans 1:20

Kenneth, hope you are able to see Andrew again. I'll be praying for him. He definitely seemed to be seeking the truth.

Glad you were able to tell him about the cross around his neck and getting a KJB.

I first heard about Todd Bentley about 3-4 years ago and saw him being ordained by Bill Johnson, alongside others that took on the title of "Apostle". It was obvious Bentley at no point was qualified to ever even be a teacher, yet they put him alongside the group of "Apostles" of today. It only took Bentley over 11 years to get disqualified from what man had given him in the first place.

It is very clear none of the "Apostles" (including Bill Johnson) have discernment and they themselves are deceived, while leading others down their path of destruction.

Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch. -Mark 15:14

More about Bentley never being qualified:

Quote
Based on our careful review of numerous first-hand reports, some of them dating back to 2004, we state our theological opinion and can say with one voice that, without a doubt, Todd is not qualified to serve in leadership or ministry today," said the leaders in an official statement shared by Brown on Facebook.

There are credible accusations of a steady pattern of ungodly and immoral behavior, confirmed by an independent investigator's interviews dating from 2008 up through 2019, along with other testimonies dating back to 2004. And while we only took into account first-hand reports, there are many other second and third-hand reports repeating the same accusations, often from people in different parts of the country (or, world) who had no connection between them, other than their interaction with Todd," the statement said. I  want to ask your Forgiveness. I reread all the posts I realized now I was being examined. I have never had any other person do this. Instead of humbly submitting, I reacted in pride.  Im very sorry. I thought you were being overly critical. but I was the one being unclear.

Hi Melanie, it was so good to read these words, as a few have already stated, that in most cases we do not see those being heavily questioned accept the correction and humbly ask for forgiveness.

I can understand how difficult it would be to type everything out on a phone multiple times, just to have it disappear or cut off. Ellie gave some great tips that I also was going to suggest.

I'm not a truck driver, but do travel by vehicle quite a bit for work. I was wondering if you listen to any teachings while out on the road? If so, have there been any teachings so far that are your favorites? I saw you mentioned the repentance teaching.

The driving and listening to past teachings have been a tremendous blessing for me to be able to learn and work at the same time.

I look forward to getting to know you better on here  :)

I forgot to mention that one of the most ridiculous things I ever heard Bryan Denlinger teach was that to be 'unequally yoked' meant that people of different 'races' (skin colours) couldn't marry!

What? Wow, I don't believe I personally ever heard him say that, but that is beyond far off!

Also, very interesting on the 8 + ) combo to =  8) Looks like that is the only combination of a number being in an emoji, so I can now see how that happened.

Hi Andrew, it was great reading through your posts! Praise the Lord Jesus Christ for pulling you out of Hillsong.

Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? -James 3:10-11

That is awesome to hear that the Lord used these verses to convict you of your filthy language, which began to draw you closer to Him and seeking the truth.

I also got caught up in the Charismatic Movement. A couple of the mega churches I attended did endorse Hillsong music and also brought in Brian Houston and Christine Caine to speak. When I left my last church in Dallas August of 2017, I researched a lot about the deception of Hillsong. The music is huge in drawing people in, as you know.

Bryan Denlinger was also someone I saw on YouTube right away after leaving the church. My eyes were opened up to the truth about the KJB, but I did notice he was off on some things (like Megan also mentioned) and stopped watching his videos.

Quote
There was this one old woman that during the whole 30 minutes of praise would have her hands over her face, with her eyes closed, mumbling very loudly and swaying back and forth. And when she would start to do it the "venue security" and the heads would crowd around her and surround her, and every time I would try and get a photo of her they would stand in between and/or give me dirty looks... so I also believe she was hexing and cursing the audience as well...

The swaying back and forth reminds me of Heidi Baker and others involved in the new age "christianity", which is definitely demonic... I'm sure you are correct about that lady likely "hexing and cursing the audience".

I've noticed many brethren have become back biters, railers, name callers, and are most times straight up rude...

When you say "brethren" here are you referring to false converts (those that proclaim to be christians, but have not been born again)? The parable of the sower talks about this (Matt 13, Mark 4, and Luke 8). Chris also has a great teaching on False Converts, which is one of my favorites. If you haven't looked at that teaching, I'm sure you would love it.

Hi Heather, welcome!

It was very encouraging to read through your posts. Praise the Lord Jesus Christ for giving you and your husband the wisdom and discernment to step away from the church you both attended for 14 years. I'm sure after that long in that church you stepped away from that you left behind a good amount of people who you thought were your friends, probably many of which don't agree with you. I had that happen when I left my last church 3 years ago, but the Lord gave me peace about leaving them all behind and warning them about the dangers of the the church (none of them have left that I warned).

We are all very excited to have you here. I look forward to more conversations with you in the future  :)

Thanks Kevin! That is some really great information. If I ever get in touch with her again, that would be fantastic to send to her.

The last time we were in contact was December 2019. Right after the short interaction over text message she blocked me on FB. Within the past month I saw she unblocked me, but we are not friends on FB. I haven't tried to see if she blocked my phone number. I'll continue to keep her in prayer and if the Lord allows for another interaction I will see what she thinks about what you wrote.

Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) -Romans 2:15

Yes, definitely! Even telling my friend indirectly got her fired up and extremely offended. A month later, I could tell she still hadn't gotten over our conversation, based on her FB post.

Quote from my former friend (April 2017): "...We cannot choose the shapes of figures we are physically attracted to [Read: Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" is legit.] Kind visit a library if you are still unclear about this, as you are behind the times and need to get caught up. People are unnecessarily suffering because of widespread lack of knowledge, while sexuality is in actuality a widely-studied subject. There is still a lot that we do not know, but one of the major conclusions drawn is that being gay or straight is not a choice. Just like some people are born left- or right-handed, some people are born asexual, homosexual, pan sexual heterosexual, or really, any shade of the rainbow...

The word that got her super heated was when I mentioned it being a choice, which she brought up in her post (saying sexual orientation isn't a choice).

She is a Genetic Counselor and should know that there hasn't (and won't ever be) a study that has concluded there is a "gay gene".

Introduce Yourself / Re: Hello!

Hi Ellie, I also really enjoyed reading your post. Praise the Lord Jesus Christ for all He has brought you through at such a young age. It's very encouraging the Lord pulled you out so quickly of the deception of the charismatic church. That is a very dangerous movement. A few years ago I saw a video of Bethel Church in Redding, CA where the "gold dust" was falling from the ceiling. Bill Johnson of Bethel, actually spoke at my former church in Dallas and it was one of the things I brought up to my small group leaders (when I was telling them I was leaving the church) that our "pastor" was endorsing and letting anyone come speak. The problem was they were huge supporters of Bethel and likely didn't want to believe what I was telling them about the "pastor" at our church and other wolves being invited in.

I can definitely relate to a lot of what you wrote. My parents divorced when I was in kindergarten and the primary reason they did so was because my mom was cheating on my dad with a woman from her drug rehab group. My mom continued to fornicate with women probably for roughly a decade (she passed away from pancreatic cancer in July 2019). I never personally got into doing drugs mostly because I saw the destruction it did to my family. Both my parents suffered from drug addictions spanning 35+ years.

Three years ago (March 2017) I was visiting one of my friends in Southern California who I ran cross country and track with in H.S. (I grew up in SoCal). She had made a very lengthy FB post (February 2017) about feeling suicidal her whole life, but on this particular day she was posting (on her 27th birthday) she was praising her medication for allowing her to experience her first birthday where she didn't want to kill herself. I talked to her on the phone about her post within a couple days and prayed about the Lord opening up an opportunity for me to visit with her if it was His will that I made the trip.

When I got out to CA a month later I asked her if I could share my testimony with her (which she was partially familiar with) and she agreed to listen. I had completely forgotten that years before she had come out as bisexual and so when I shared about my mom going into that lifestyle and coming out years later because she felt convicted to leave it, my friend erupted (yelling and cussing me out for saying the LGBT lifestyle was a choice). She also yelled at me for "trying to convert her", but inside I laughed about that because I know I have no power to convert (only God can give the increase, 1 Corinthians 3:6). We were supposed to meet up with two other friends for a hike, but because she was so heated we canceled that. I had never seen the rage I saw in her that day at any other time and I told her numerous times to drop me off in the neighborhood in LA we were driving through and I would wait for a family member to pick me up. She didn't want me to wait for anyone and of course the awkward car ride to my dad's house got extended even more when she missed the ramp we were supposed to take. I was in the car with her for about 2.5 hours listening to her try to give an analogy about ice cream flavors and how that related to LGBT. I am thankful the Lord helped me stay calm and collected while she was yelling at me (she didn't yell at me the whole time, but was extremely upset).

About a month later she posted another lengthy post on FB actually stating for people to read Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" song saying it was "legit". She also referenced some other movies that related to sexuality. It is so sad how influential these types of things are on people.

I am so glad the Lord pulled you out of the lifestyle you were going down and brought you to repentance and faith.

What's New @ CLE / Re: (BOOK) Wolves in Costume: Kent Hovind
« on: June 14, 2020, 09:55:27 AM »
From Chapter 7: Kent endorses the book "The Shack":

Quote
Kent: I've read it eight times. It is one of the best books I have ever read in my life. It is phenomenal! A couple of theological things I don't agree with, but all in all, it is just incredible. I learned years ago how to eat the meat and spit out the bones. If you don't learn how to do that, you're gonna' choke on something

Quote
The Shack: I don't need to punish people for sin... It's not my purpose to punish it;
-William P. Young, The Shack, Windblown Media, 2008, p. 120, ISBN: 9780964729292

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. -Romans 6:23

There were several quotes included in the book that were so far from the truth of the Bible it is hard to see how any "pastor" could recommend "The Shack".

I had never heard of the book "The Shack" (published in 2007) until the movie came out in 2017. At that time I remember one of my small group leaders at my previous church claiming that the book helped him understand the Godhead and overall said it strengthen his faith.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. -2 Timothy 4:3-4

It is no wonder that the book has sold over 23 million copies and spent 147 weeks on the bestseller list, as it gives a Christian universalism message that all will be saved.

Quote
So-called Christian universalism, which Paul Young did embrace, insists that all must come to God through Jesus Christ either before they die or after they die. If people do not believe in Jesus before they die, God will use the fires of hell to purge away (not punish) the unbelief of all, even that of the devil and fallen angels, so that hell is finally emptied of all beings and all go to heaven. In others words, after people die, they have a second chance to repent of their sins--actually not just a chance to repent but a certainty that they will. The point is that in the end hell ceases to exist. There is no eternal judgment. This is the form of universalism embedded in The Shack. -James B. DeYoung
