One-liners anyone?
« on: June 13, 2019, 05:12:12 PM »
Tim and I are planning on preaching outside of the Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville this coming Tuesday night. The band playing that night is called Vampire Weekend. As I am completely unfamiliar with the music of this group I've been researching some of their songs. Their music isn't heavy metal or punk or anything like that, but it is totally wicked. Here is a link to one of their songs that seems to be popular.

When preaching to a crowd I like to come up with some one-liners that involve whatever it is they are going to see and also include some biblical truth or gospel message. If anyone would like to take a look at these lyrics and give me a suggestion I would appreciate it.

Here is another if anyone is interested:

Without having an example, I don't understand the exercise.
The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Van Halen has an old song called "Running with the Devil". AC/DC has a song called "Highway to Hell".
Therefore, when preaching to heavy metal fans I will sometimes say, "You are on the highway to hell, running with the devil. You people need to get off that broad highway to hell and get on the narrow road that leads to life".

Def Leppard has an old song called "Pour Some Sugar on Me". So I may preach something like, "If you die in your sin Jesus Christ is going to pour some hellfire on you".

I simply use it as an attention getter when people are passing by and trying to ignore the message.

Vampire Weekend has a song called Harmony Hall. Part of the chorus says:

"I don't wanna live like this, but I don't wanna die"

Therefore I may say to the crowd something like, "If you don't want to live like this (in your sins that is) and you don't want to die (and end up in the flames of hell,) we have the answer for you!!!"
Nehemiah 8:8 KJV — So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.

How about this? "Jesus is the reason why I reject this season of Sin"
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. Genesis 1:26 Who can say that man is an animal?

"Season of sin"?
Which song is that?

That is exactly the kind of one-liner I'm looking for.

I'm starting to think that the name of this band, "Vampire Weekend" a mocking of the Mass and the Eucharist. (Which is, in fact, the drinking of blood to obtain eternal life.)
It seems that one of the members of the band strongly rejected what he calls Christianity, but is actually Catholicism.
Therefore, may my one liner may go something like this, "We are not here to invite you to be a vampire on weekends, we are here to invite you to be cleansed by the blood of the Savior for all of eternity." Or something along those lines.

Just a thought but you might get quite a response if you address the preaching to those who don't do drugs and rock music and fornication and preach that those who live clean lives are going to hell.  What might happen is that those who do drugs and rock music and fornication might take a whole lot of notice because the message isn't directed at them and those who think they are clean and righteous will be outraged to the point they will listen and argue.  Bystanders just love watching and listening to that kind of thing.

By preaching about just turning from sin can give the appearance that we are saved by works. Preaching that giving up drugs and rock music and fornication will not save them might make them a whole lot more interested.
And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the Lord, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.  Micah 5:7 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

That is a good idea.
I just need to remember to take that approach, Lord willing.

I neglected to put in my one-liner after writing my last post.

You can tell them they are on a stairway   .....  but it's not a stairway to Heaven   .....  they are on a stairway to the fire of Hell.

That might be good or some sort of a Led Zeppelin show.

However, I'm working on one-liners for this Vampire Weekend concert coming up on Tuesday the 18th.

Actually, this is a very good one-liner. And very biblical indeed.

Hebr 11:25 [Moses] Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season.

That's where I got it from and from the phase "JESUS is the reason for the season".

Why follow  vampires to the darkness where there is weeping and nashing of teeth when you can follow jesus to the light and be in paradise

I'm looking for one-liners that use direct quotes from some titles and lyrics.

The perfect scripture for the vampire junk would be this.

John 6 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. 54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

You can tell them that the Bible teaches that they must drink the blood of Christ to be saved.
And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the Lord, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.  Micah 5:7 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
