Paul grieved
« on: July 10, 2018, 08:24:33 PM »
Howdy everyone,

I've enjoyed reading the notes on Acts that Chris has made available to us. His study has helped
with the many questions that my middle daughter can come up with :)
We were reading through Acts 16 and the question came up about Paul being grieved in verse 18.
Was wondering if anyone would like to give there thoughts on why Paul allowed this woman to
continue many days before he commanded the evil spirit to come out of her?

This is pure conjecture on my part, but maybe because what she was saying was the truth and he wanted to allow people to hear it before proving it? This would have also been a lesson to her owner(s), though they chose to ignore it.

Perhaps the Spirit of God did not show him that she was possessed until that time.
Perhaps the Lord did not want him to rebuke her until that point so we could learn a lesson from it.
Perhaps she generally stayed out of their way until that point.
Perhaps Paul had to fast first, as some spirits do not come out except through prayer and fasting.

There could be many reasons; the Bible doesn't say specifically, so we can only speculate. I'm just glad someone's reading those notes.
The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
-Psa 34:18

Your notes make excellent reading.
And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the Lord, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.  Micah 5:7 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
