Bible Discussion / Re: Achan's Death??
« on: April 24, 2018, 07:56:23 AM »
It is a shame that the last forum was lost as we covered this also in one of the discussions on contradictions.

Deuteronomy 24 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

Joshua 7 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
24 And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Achor. 25 And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the Lord shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.

It would seem that they too were then transgressors of the Law in that they punished the innocent children for the sin of their father.  Unless the children were old enough to also be involved and knew what they were doing.

The most Interesting? Sad? Comical? part would be if she claims to be a Christian.

A couple of nights ago I listened to another 3 minutes of the teaching and made these extra notes.  I got busy on other stuff last night so didn't get to post them or to watch more of the talk.

He's working on a Masters in counselling.  A qualification.  Therefore who actually assesses the work you do and if it scores a pass or not.  Under this dissertation or thesis in "counselling" what is a favourable outcome for a pass?  What is a poor outcome of the counselling that scores a fail?  The only people that could mark or grade the thesis would be people who are highly esteemed in this subjective and not objective field of "counselling".  I guess it's just a matter of getting all the cliche ducks lined up in a row.  What is the entry criteria for someone wanting to do the Masters degree in counselling?  Is it just someone saying, Ooooh, I wouldn't mind having a go at that?  Wow, a certificate on the wall to say that one is now a qualified counsellor !!  Neat power trip and totally the opposite of humility.  It would look good on the wall though beside the certificate for 25 yards breaststroke that they got when they were 7 years old.

Ephesians 4 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.

No, I'm not seeing counsellors on the list here.  Probably best in that case just to point the person to a whole lot of scriptures that will let them know that the Holy Spirit/Jesus/The Father in Heaven is the one we should be taking our lively concerns to (i.e. pastoral work).  Especially if the person seeking counsel might actually have a hidden life long problem with dishonesty and the clever manipulation of others to get their own way and lately things have been falling apart and things aren't going so well for them.  The serious issues in life would make (do make) a complete mockery of a Masters in Counselling.  Don't let this guy near your family   .....  actually   ......   don't let this guy near anyone.

Likewise as all of the others commented this phrase of "when I start preaching".  If the concept/meaning of teaching and preaching are used interchangeably then he started as soon as he opened his mouth at the beginning.  What kind of a person would want to say something like this to those who are listening?

Oh no, not the Greek meanings.  Luckily I don't know Greek   .....  and don't really want to know Greek   .....  apart from some of the recipes I have tried in my Greek cookbook and they are very nice too   ......  but the interest pretty much stops there.

Wild Emails @ CLE / Re: Need An Excuse? Just Yell "Praise Jesus!"
« on: April 17, 2018, 04:18:32 PM »
Since 1974 this guy has learnt 100% nothing.  In that time he should have become so mature in Christ that there was no way in the world he would have written to you the way he did.

Actually if he was a true born again believer the only thing he should have been writing was to ask to join the congregation and would be bringing with him a depth of humility and understanding and Biblical knowledge.

But alas it's often not difficult to spot those who really aren't of Christ as sooner or later they start showing what their true agenda is and because they don't have the Holy Spirit dwelling within them they are not privy to the true understanding of the Word.

I've watched up to the 13 min mark so far   ......  I'll watch the rest probably tomorrow night.  I can't stand the guy.  To me he's just another one talking loads of airy fairy rubbish so far.

Some notes I have made while watching so far:

He goes on about bitterness but there is no definition of bitterness.

Commenting about physical heart problems being caused by bitterness    ......   that is rather vague    .......   what if the stress is caused by the consequences of someone else lying and falsely accusing an innocent person.  Since he wants to talk about people avoiding pain then he might want to mention a liar who avoids the pain of owning up and causing anguish for the falsely accused.  This guy has no depth of understanding.

Hmmm, so lets see.  A person's "bitterness" isn't just about them it affects others    ......   well so does the above mentioned false convert who tells outright lies against an innocent person affect others as it causes an honest and valuable person to be cut out of the congregation and also allows a wolf to stay in the congregation to cause more damage.  Hence that it is important to get to the root of matters and not trimming of the perceived little tips of the outer branches.

This is also what sets CLE apart from the other "churches" out there that the Word of God is read sequecially book by book with discussion along the way and a verse here and a verse there is not just cherry picked out for the talker to say what they want to say and for scripture to mean whatever they want it to mean.

Something has happened and I'm able to log in to the forum from home again  :)

2 Timothy 3 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Because all scripture is inspired of God then He has intentionally allowed these discrepancies to be in His word.  He could have prompted the writers to be exactly correct in their accounts of events but He chose not to.

An interesting comparison:
John 14 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. 25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

I still find it incredibly difficult reading when having that feeling that I have just read all of this and now I'm reading it again.

727
I started looking in to this quite a number of years ago because I also saw the differences between 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings and what was written in 1 & 2 Chronicles.  The only answers I could come up with was that the writer was intentionally painting a different picture of the way things were before being taken in to captivity.  The problem was never with the translators of the King James Bible.

I'm reading 1 & 2 Chronicles at the moment and these are the two books that always bog me down the most and I find I really don't like reading them because of the discrepancies.

I think the rubber's going to meet the road with the "social justice warriors" when the word "sin" becomes "hate speech."

Again anyone can see the totally faulty logic if the word "sin" becomes "hate speech."  That would then mean that they are saying that we are sinners if we use the word 'sin'   .....  but they said the word "sin" is "hate speech" and so they themselves are then guilty of the very thing they said they were against.

I have actually been right through this whole scenario with "pastors" and others in the church buildings and when their logic falls to pieces it is a sure way to make them go in to a wild rage   ....   which is itself a sin.

Ephesians 4 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32 and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ

That was an excellent read Jeanne.  It can often appear that others are doing so much better but I can assure you that typically we all struggle with things and have things to sort out on a regular basis    ......  at least now I know that I'm not alone  ;D

Listening to that audio clip is exactly what I was referring to when I wrote this comment.  Sometimes (usually actually) I despair about trying to get people to see things as they really are and cut through all of the nonsense out there.  The fake "Christians" and the fake "churches" cause such serious damage.  The personal loss to me through false teachers and those who give totally un-Biblical patsy answers to the issues of sinfulness has been tremendous.

It is so good to be around like minded people here.  At the moment I still can't log in to the forum from home for some reason so all I can do is turn up very early for work to join in.  A minor frustration compared to all of the other stuff.

General Discussion / Re: What is a Pharmaceutical?
« on: March 19, 2018, 12:56:20 AM »
Thanks for that Jeanne.  I had no idea that eating raw cannabis would have none of the effects of those who smoke it.

I actually know very little about all the pills and potions out in the world as the whole lot is a field I never took any interest in.

The irony is that I work for the School of Pharmacy at the University of Otago but I know less than the usual person in the street about medication.  When I started here I was a teaching lab technician for four years teaching medicinal chemistry and biopharmaceutics in the undergrad labs but no knowledge of all the pills and potions out there was required for that.  What I was doing was just teaching pure science.  After four years I couldn't stand the thought of doing the same teaching for even another year and I was going to leave to find a job in engineering somewhere but other avenues opened and today I spend my time working on horticulture and agriculture projects.

An interesting side of the omega fatty acids is also the importance of eating grass fed (or more importantly clover) beef or mutton.  Clover contains high levels of omega 3 fatty acids which are essential for brain health etc.  Grain fed animals don't have anywhere near the same content or the correct ratio of omega 3 fatty acids to omega 6 fatty acids in their meat and that can be a health problem for those who consume the meat.

I see in this article that raw cannabis contains high levels of omega 3 fatty acids just as clover does.

Joshua, I don't know, but it may be beneficial for you to seek out foods that have high levels of omega 3 fatty acids and see if it helps your condition in any way.

Also, Laetrile is simply B17 concentrated; it's made from apricot seeds. It's natural, which is why it could not be patented, so it is not the same as a "pharmaceutical drug."
This whole subject is an interesting one.  I would have written over the weekend but for some reason I'm back to not being able to log in to the forum from home on any of my devices.  I think the DNS of my internet provider is at fault.

Many of the pharmaceuticals on the market are natural products extracted from plants etc.  Although companies can't patent them they still produce the product and compete with other companies for a market share in sales.  A patent on a new compound only lasts for about 20 years and then the patent expires and it is then wide open for anyone to sell that compound.  The companies can patent the manufacturing process though so if you wish to manufacture the compound and sell it you would have to synthesize it in a different way.

I'm quite sure that when God is against the improper use of compounds it is the type of compounds that are psychoactive.  God has caused plants to manufacture morphine and that is a good thing for people who have suffered an injury in the normal course of work but it is a bad thing for those who abuse it just to get "high".

Proverbs 17:22 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine:
but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

The whole Greek game pharmakia word doesn't occur in my Authorized (King James) Version Bible.  But as above the Bible does say that "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine".  Does that then say "A merry heart doeth good like a sorcery"?  No of course not.  But the use of a medicine is OK so long as people are not using it for sorcery such as the improper use of psychactive compounds such as morphine.

Hi Masha & Sue

It was interesting reading this and I couldn't help seeing the parallel between the raising of children and a person not being a railer as outlined in some of the posts Chris has just made.

Huh??  :-\

You could kill two birds with one stone (so to speak) by (as I'm sure you're already doing) raising children to be able to explain to others matters of life without railing   .....   but also as the children grow they can use the same careful skills with their Dad to explain that they have liberty to do certain things that are not sinful and in formulating those kinds of replies they are then also thinking through the issues themselves. When the growing young adults are used to formulating correct answers to what they are doing and why they are doing it and the consequences that will inevitably arise from making certain decisions they will much more likely stay on the right track.

They won't survive in the congregations in the church buildings though because the questions of, what are we doing? and why are we doing it? are forbidden.  ;)

I just had a read/skim over some of the material in the references.  They sure do need a few veils lifted away from in front of their eyes.  You would think they would have cleaned themselves up from the St Patrick junk.

We have three suburbs here in Dunedin that are officially called St Leonards, St Clair and St Kilda.  I refuse to call them that.  I will only ever refer to them as Leonards, Clair and Kilda.  When people question me I don't hesitate to give them a little lecture.

Like reading or studying the false doctrines and false teachers some things give about the same feeling as having a swim in pollution.

Introduce Yourself / Hi From New Zealand
« on: March 06, 2018, 05:52:36 AM »
Hi again all

My name is Kevin and I am 56 years old and grew up in Christchurch, New Zealand.  I have been a Christian for 31 years after finally accepting Jesus Christ as my lord and saviour in June 1986.  I grew up in a totally "unchurched" family and I knew absolutely nothing of the Bible.  As I wrote in a previous introduction on one of the CLE forums that was lost, I knew so little of anything to do with Christian things or the Bible, I thought Moses was a whale.  I knew there was a whale in there somewhere and I thought it was called Moses.

My beginnings to becoming a Christian was when working as an apprentice in the fitting, turning and machining trade.  While rather long and time consuming cuts were being made on items in the lathe I eventually spent time thinking of biological systems and it dawned on me that life could never come about all on its own.  After quite a time of more musing it dawned on me that there is only one explanation that any living thing can exist and that there must be a God who created it.  Wow, I believe in God  ....  probably best that I don't go mentioning this to others.  This was a time when I was in my early twenties but I really wasn't too much like the other apprentices and the others in the workplace.  In New Zealand people call themselves "kiwis" (named after one of our native birds) and many New Zealanders think they are God's gift to mankind and the next greatest thing to sliced bread.  I was already at odds with others over this because I didn't think New Zealand people were much to be impressed with.  More to the point the others might have thought that they were great but I didn't think that of myself  ....  I knew things that I had done wrong in the past   ....  tiny inconsequential things in the world's sight but they were major things to me.  They made me cringe.  When I was alone at home I began talking to God and telling Him that I know He exists because evolution is totally impossible and there can be no other answers.  I also let God know that I know absolutely nothing so I am going to have to rely on Him leading me on the correct path.  Over the next few years I learned and generally picked up most of what I needed to know and began openly calling myself a Christian in June 1986.

When I became a Christian I began attending a church   ....  and within a week I was I strife with people in the "church" over doctrine.  When I pointed out to people that what the "pastor" was teaching wasn't correct I was ridiculed and told that "pastor blah blah has been a Christian for years and here I am someone who has been a Christian for a couple of weeks and I'm rocking the boat".  Within another week I was gone from there.  I went to another "church", an Assemblies of God church and it wasn't any better.  After a number of years (wow, how did I stay that long) I left there too and attended a Baptist Church (can you see a pattern forming here) until 1998.  I had decided by this time that I was never going to set foot inside the church buidings again for as long as I lived   ....  I do not like these people   .....  and they certainly don't like me.

Fast forward to the end of 2015 and I was getting phased out computers from my workplace and loading Linux on to them and getting them out to disadvantaged young people.  I wasn't just giving out the computers but I wanted them to have Christian material on them when they got them and hopefully it might set them on the correct course in life.  Looking around the internet for good proper teaching material I came across this website Christian Liberty Evangelism.  Wow, what a difference to everything I have put up with in the past.  People here do proper Bible study and topics are open for discussion.  Hence I'm still here and I am now very much a part of the CLE congregation and loving every bit of it.

Rgrds to all

Kevin
