Bible Discussion / Re: Is the bible a book about a chosen race??

That's something I've noticed and wondered about, too. Joseph and Manasseh (who was a son of Joseph) are mentioned but I've always wondered what happened to Dan.

And having Manasseh but not Ephraim, but then adding one more would make it thirteen groups sealed and not twelve unless another of the tribes was dropped off the list.

Revelation 7:4-8 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand.
Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand.
Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand.
Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand.

Of the tribe of Nepthalim were sealed twelve thousand.
Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand.
Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand.
Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand.

Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand.
Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand.
Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand.
Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.

A while back when writing back to Wesley I wrote about the 12,000 of the children from each of the tribes of Israel being sealed and sent out in to the world to preach the kingdom.  One of the interesting points I didn't put in was that the tribe of Dan is not represented in the list.

I thought I would just put that out there in case anyone found it to be an interesting topic for further discussion.

I'm not sure if the Youtube-dl works in Windows 10 but I would be surprised if it didn't.  I have never used Windows10 but if I needed something that works on Windows I would just go with Jeanne's recommendation of using RealPlayer.

I use a program called youtube-dl and I just had a check and it is available for MS Windows too.

I use youtube-dl because it downloads the video as an mp4 or other formats you may wish to have and only the video gets downloaded and stored on your hard drive (No Adverts).  (youtube-dl stands for Youtube Download).  I also use it because it means you can also watch content that is not interrupted by breaks in transmission due to internet buffering etc)

The book (i.e. the Bible) is way better than any movie ever could be and gives the accurate description of the events.  The images you form in your mind while reading it is excellent entertainment in itself.  The same goes for all of the books of the Bible.

I should add that my "children" are now 28 & 26 yrs old.  I actually haven't even seen them for nearing on 11 years and have only even seen them a few times since they were in their early teens.  I live with the hope that one day they will see that feminism is one of the evils of this world and will see the damage that it has caused in their lives and that there is absolutely no place for feminism in God's church.

Fred, I can truly empathise with your situation and I pray that you will stay strong in the Lord no matter what happens. Another member of the forum here knows first hand exactly what you are going through as he lost his wife and children a number of years ago to a 'church' that tried to usurp his position in his family. Of course, he was branded as the one in the wrong for defying the 'authority' of the 'pastor'.

Hi Fred.  That person Jeanne is referring to is me, Kevin.

Not only that they "tried" to usurp my authority in my family but rather they continually DID usurp my authority over my family to protect and care for them.  Today neither of my children are Christians and my ex-wife definitely isn't a Christian and I realised within a short time that she never was.

They shall all get their reward for everything they have said and done unless they come to repentance.  Quite a fitting comment at such a time when Chris is doing teachings on the subject.

The church buildings are full to the brim with false Christians who are only there to feel good about themselves.

Bible Discussion / Re: What is the unforgivable sin?
« on: May 26, 2018, 08:12:13 AM »
I have read from differing view points that it is the following:

Claiming the holy spirit is doing act of evil in someone seems the most popular internet answer. ...

That does bring up the interesting discussion of whether God does evil.  The Biblical use of the word evil can be quite different in the way in which we use it today.  A typical example is here

Ezekiel 6 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
8 Yet will I leave a remnant, that ye may have some that shall escape the sword among the nations, when ye shall be scattered through the countries. 9 And they that escape of you shall remember me among the nations whither they shall be carried captives, because I am broken with their whorish heart, which hath departed from me, and with their eyes, which go a whoring after their idols: and they shall lothe themselves for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations. 10 And they shall know that I am the Lord, and that I have not said in vain that I would do this evil unto them.

I had an anti-Christian acquantance comment to me a number of years ago that God does evil and my reply was "Yes He does, it even tells you that in the Bible".  My answer completely "took the wind out of his sails" and he was speechless and didn't know how to respond because he never thought I would dare say such a thing.

Hence sin and evil are two different things.

Hi Jeanne

Thanks for notifying me of that.  Yes I did have to create a new account quite a while back but on my browser it does show my name beside my postings.  I'll have a further look at my profile.  (Amending this posting.)  I don't think there is anything I can do about it Jeanne.  Are you or Chris or another of the administrators able to add me to the members list?

Apology if I caused any confusion Wesley.  A couple of forum re-creations ago I took the opportunity and changed the name I use as I realised people from the "church" I used to attend might be able find my name in the forum via Google searches and quite frankly I'm finished with those people and would prefer to never have anything to do with any of them ever again.

Hi Wesley

A welcome to the forum from me too.

When you write "race" that is possibly not the best choice of word for the situation as man we are all of the race of mankind.  Abraham didn't have any special qualities that God chose him to be the father of a nation that was to lead the way for His plan of redemption for mankind.  Here was a man who was old.  His wife was old.  They couldn't have children.  You'll do.  And so the plan for the Israelites and the following redemption began.  It was also known that through Abraham all of the nations of the world would be blessed and that of course was through Jesus who is and was the Christ who would bring redemption for all of mankind through the covenant in Jesus' blood that was shed on the cross and His resurrection from the dead.

Although the descendants of the children of Jacob are scattered through the world and have lost their identity (especially the ten Northern tribes) God knows exactly who they are and the time is coming when God will bring them back in to Israel the land that was promised to them.  That God has not finished with the children of Israel is highlighted in Revelation where there will be twelve thousand from each of the tribes of Israel who will be sealed with a seal of God and will go out throughout the world preaching the gospel of the kingdom to all who live on the face of the earth.

Revelation 7 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. 5 Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand. 6 Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nepthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand. 7 Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand. 8 Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.

As for the rest of us.

Colossians 3 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; 10 and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: 11 where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

712
So true for what happens in the "churches" today.  All faith and no works.

Even as in this case where Jesus is pointing it out to them clearly they still can't or don't want to see it.  The "pastors" are the worst  .....  and the "elders" are just as guilty.

Philippians 2 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

I go on about this a bit because I can't even begin to understand the thinking patterns of people such as them.

713
The articles you write and make freely available highlight the importance of sound Biblical teaching.

Along with the teaching is the excellent forum for Biblical discussion so that doctrines can be discussed and for all readers to develop a better understanding of the word of God.

Matthew 15 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
13 But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. 14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

It sure makes one thank God so many times every day that He has caused the veils that cause blindness to be lifted away from ones eyes and to be allowed to see clearly.

Hi All

I'm not sure if any of the rest of you are watching too closely what is potentially unfolding with the events occuring in Hawaii.  What at first can appear to be a volcanic event is much more likely to be a volcanic event that has been caused by a geologic event.  That area that is moving is called the Hilina Slump.  The area moves every 2.5 years as regular as clockwork.  As expected the area did move earlier this year.  If that large piece of land slides down in to the ocean it is going to cause a mega-tsunami that will cause devastation to the west coast of the USA and Central and South America.  At the water's edge of this zone the ocean depth drops straight down to a depth of about 4000 metres to 5000 metres deep.

This isn't "scare mongering", this is something that has a real potential to occur.

Hi Jeanne

Thanks for that.  Yes, I intentionally left out the whole parable of the 'Good Samaritan' and left that for anyone reading to follow up on themselves and see what that was about.  I do the same when I explain to people here that the whole Samaritan situation is Biblical and while finding out about that they might like to check out while they have time the importance of other things that are also very important.  Hence why I regularly challenge people about 'evolution' as so much of our society is based on this fable.

Although I don't make a definite doctrine on any of what I wrote about the days and the thousands of years I do try to get across to people that any time is a good time to start paying attention to what is written in the Bible.

Bible Discussion / Two Days With The Gentiles
« on: May 05, 2018, 10:29:31 PM »
I was reading 2Peter and then thought that the possibly associated subject matter might be of interest to the general public who has access to read the General Category > Bible Discussion topics on the forum.

Often today we hear people referring to others as a "good Samaritan" and I have often found myself humouring such people along to show them that they are using the term out of context and the term is usually used without the person knowing that the term is from the Bible.

Some Background
The Samaritans were the non-Israelite peoples who were moved into the northern part of Israel in about 677 BC to occupy the land after the ten northern tribes of Israel were taken captive by the Assyrians.

2 Kings 17 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
24 And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Ava, and from Hamath, and from Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof. 25 And so it was at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not the Lord: therefore the Lord sent lions among them, which slew some of them. 26 Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they slay them, because they know not the manner of the God of the land. 27 Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land. 28 Then one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Beth-el, and taught them how they should fear the Lord.

As in the scripture above, because the people who were moved in to the land were un-Godly they were the subject of God's wrath in the land that God had chosen as a land for His chosen people that were to be used for His plan of redemption for the whole world.  Ironically one of the Levite priests was chosen to teach the Samaritans how they should live in God's land and as a result the Samaritans began to follow the Law of Moses even though they were not the chosen people.  Ironic because it was because of the failure of the Levite priests as well as the rest of the people that they got kicked out of the promised land.  As a result of this these non-Israelite northern people were always rejected by the southern tribes of Judah, Benjamin and the Levites associated with them who were allowed back in to the southern part of Israel after their exile was over.

Fast forward to Jesus time.

John 4 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
1 When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, 2 (though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,) 3 he left Judea, and departed again into Galilee. 4 And he must needs go through Samaria. ...

John 4 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. 40 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days. 41 And many more believed because of his own word; 42 and said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

43 Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.

It is of interest to note that Jesus spent two days with these non-Israelites (gentiles) before He continued heading north on His way to Galilee.  Could there be any significance in this spending two days with the gentiles?

2 Peter 3 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
3 ... there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 but the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

It is of interest to note that slackness would be the description you would use of someone who is not punctual and does not turn up on time.  If being diligent is one of the attributes that God wishes us to have then He must be seen to do the same as an example to us.

It is now almost exactly two thousand years that God has been with the gentiles.  I wouldn't at all be surprised if all of the end time events leading up to the return of Christ occur within the next ten years

When things start happening it will begin without much warning to those who haven't recognised the Elijah type person who will preceed the major events and leading God's true believers to safety.  When the flood of Noah started, apart from Noah and his family, they had no warning and were all killed and the same with Sodom and Gomorrah, only as soon as Lot and others associated left the city then destruction came immediately.

Anyway I hope the information on who the Samaritans are was entertaining and I leave the reader with the thought that the time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining.

2 Peter 3 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night

Solomon may have been in much the same kind of a situation and even having to stand up against boisterous wicked people.

1 Kings 3 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
7 And now, O Lord my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in. 8 And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. 9 Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?

Obeisance
OBE'ISANCE, noun [Latin obedio.]
A bow or courtesy; an act of reverence made by an inclination of the body or the knee. Genesis 37:7.

It seems he might have been one of those people who are easily led and fooled by the princes of Judah in to doing something so stupid.  Rather than being pestered and ridiculed by the princes he might have just taken the easy way out and had Zechariah put to death and then continued on the rest of the wicked way.  The whole lot seems to be just the usual bad behaviour of the Israelites that saw them kicked out of the land.

I'm just writing quickly from work so not giving details but the same kind of folly for Solomon.  So much for having wisdom but one would have thought that wisdom would have given him enough insight to do what was right for all of his days until he left the face of the world.

It isn't just a matter of running the race or starting a job but a matter of seeing it to its completion.

Thanks for the replies.  I went to bed last night and then had the horrible thought that I had changed the course of the discussion and was debating with myself if I should get up and get back on the computer and delete my posting.

Yes it is good to go over the same materials repeatedly and with this whole topic I found myself standing back again and trying to get a grasp of the overall picture of the events that were happening.

My apologies for bringing in a side issue that were not on topic with the main discussion.  Of the situation with Achan, God also knew that thousands of years later we would be reading the account of these happenings and they would be as instruction for us.  Although I use humour too often to comment about the absurd things that are happening all the time I certainly take the message on board that there is a certain way that God requires us to be within His new camp of those who are redeemed.
